I was at the gym last week and overheard a conversation from a gal on the exercise bike in front of me about how she had lost 25 pounds by basically eating spicy foods each day. Her diet intrigued me enough (I just LOVE spicy foods!) to follow her to the locker and ask her about it. Thankfully she didn’t think I was a stalker and was plenty willing to tell me her story.

Basically, the gal said she eats a small breakfast of healthy cereal and a light dinner of fruits and vegetables. Okay, but where is the spicy food you’re wondering? I was wondering the same thing myself. Well, she eventually went on to tell me that she would eat a really spicy dish for lunch from her favorite Thai restaurant. That was her diet. According to her that resulted in a 25 pound weight loss in 4 months time.

Honestly, I didn’t see how the spicy food once a day was really doing anything. And is Thai food really healthy to be eating each day? I don’t know. Anyways, the gal went on to tell me that it seemed to work to suppress her appetite and she didn’t crave the all the “bad” foods that she use to consume during the morning and evening hours. Well that was kind of interesting. Can spicy foods kill your desire for the “bad” foods? I wanted to try and so I did.

Well, I’ve been eating a REALLY spicy dinner for the last 4 days and I think my appetite has diminished a little bit. Granted this could all be in my head, and honestly, I don’t know how much longer I can eat a spicy dinner each day, but there may be something to this. It’s too early to tell if I’m losing weight, but this doesn’t look like a diet I will be able to sustain long term. At this point, I’m wondering if adding a little spice to each meal, as opposed to the really spicy stuff, will work to kill the cravings. I shall see and keep you posted.
