The Way You Look in a Mirror vs. The Way You Look in Your Mind
Posted under Diet Distress | MiscellaneousHere’s something to think about… Many of us that are overweight (according to the scale) don’t think we look over weight. It’s actually quite puzzling.
Think about it -
Have you ever looked at a picture of yourself and found yourself totally amazed at how (fat) you look?
Have you ever looked at some huge jeans and figured they’d be loose on you but instead they were tight, or didn’t fit at all?
Have you ever taken a picture with someone you were sure was bigger than you, then view the picture to find the opposite?
I’d bet many of you have. I certainly have.
I got to thinking about it. Just what is it that amazes us so much. I mean, we look at ourselves in the mirror every morning, so isn’t the person looking back at us in the mirror the same person in the picture? It is, yet our perspective is somewhat different.
I’ve come to realize that people don’t usually see me in the same way as I see myself in the mirror each morning. I hate to admit it, but when I look in the mirror, I tend to face a certain way, I tend to suck in my stomach a certain way, I do the same with my cheeks. The result is a person that I always identify as ME.
In essence, I’m projecting the best image I can of myself in the mirror each moring and thinking that what people see throughout the whole day. Sadly, and as the pictures prove, it’s not. Pictures catch us with our stomach hanging out, our double chin at its worst, bending over, etc, etc, etc.
The thing is, in many people’s mind, skinny people constantly look their best - there’s just no fat to hide, so even those damn pictures look like they’ve been practicing in a mirror.
I’d like to hear about what others think of this, so please post you thoughts.
