Remember the old saying “if you can pinch more than an inch…” which basically was a way to tell how fat you were getting. If you could pinch more than an inch you were getting fat, so you would lose weight. If you couldn’t pinch that inch of fat then you were ok. Many people still use this technique to see how out of sync they are becoming with their diet.

But what do us big folks do? Pinch an inch? Hell I don’t know how much in inches it is that I’m pinching, but it sure aint no inch. It’s a handful! So unfortunately, there goes that measuring technique. The only thing left is the scale.

But is the standard home scale really that useful for us big folks? The problem is many home scales only go up to 280 pounds or so. There are a whole lot of folks walking around that are bigger than 280 pounds. So basically they can’t rely on that comparison tool either.

Sure, I know some of you may be saying “just go to the store and get a scale that handles more weight” but that’s easier said than done. Most very large folks are ashamed they’re bigger than a standard home scale will allow. They feel ashamed to their family and continue on acting as if the home scale does just fine. Heaven forbid a family member sees a heavy duty scale in the bathroom and thinks something negative… yes, that’s how a lot of bigger folks think.

Unfortunately, once you lose any measurable way to check how big you’re becoming, you totally lose control and keep going up and up in pounds. That’s a sad but accurate statement. Most very large people will tell you once they reached a point of being unable to see their weight gain, they simply ignored it, and then they lost control.
