We all worry about heart dieses today. No wonder, it’s one of our worse enemies. But, there is a very basic thing that we can do to help protect ourselves from the hidden dangers of heart disease – drink green tea.

It may sound too simple, but in one study of more than 40,000 people, those that drank more than 5 or more cups of green tea every day had the lowest risk of dying from heart disease or stroke.

In fact, for centuries green tea has been recognized in Asia for its role in a healthy lifestyle. And over the last several years scientists have conducted studies and may have discovered just why green tea has been given so much attention.

Recent studies have identified some powerful antioxidants in the green tea. One of the antioxidants, known as EGCG is found only in green tea leaves and is one of the most potent antioxidants yet discovered.

These researchers theorize that the antioxidants contribute to good health by neutralizing free radicals. Free radicals are released in your body and can cause disease and may even contribute to the aging process. It’s no wonder the ancient Emperors’ proclaimed green tea to be “heaven sent”.

To get more out of every cup of green tea, squeeze a little lemon juice in your cup. Vitamin C in lemons helps your body absorb 13 times more EGCG than it can from plain tea alone. If lemons are not readily on hand you can use lime, grapefruit or orange for the same result.

Of course, drinking green tea is a small change that you can do to help your overall health. You still need to make the right eating choice and live a healthy lifestyle for the best results.
