Ask any mild or even a moderately overweight person what they would like to change about themselves and you will typically hear things like “get smaller belly” or “have thinner arms or legs”. In fact, a lot of us think that we’d be just fine in the figure department if we could reduce the size of a body part or two. So, instead of diet we turn to spot reduction exercises, bu are these exercises a myth or do they really work?
Trim Your Wasitline - The No B.S. Approach
The fact of the matter is spot reduction doesn’t work in the way that you may think it does. That is, it doesn’t make one area smaller while leaving the others areas untouched. In fact, if you were to continue eating bad and consuming more calories than you burn, your target area may even get larger due to the additional muscle size you add to the area through exercise. But so many people swear by spot reduction exercises, why is that?
Here’s the deal… Whenever we exercise we burn calories. If we continue to eat what we normally eat, without changing our diet, we may lose some weight due to the burning off of calories through that exercise. In addition, those flabby areas may also start to feel a little tight due to the muscles getting toned. This combination makes us feel better and also makes us think that we lost weight in the target area. This is good. However, if you take a tape measure to the area you will likely find that the area isn’t smaller at all.
The only way to really lose body fat is to take in fewer calories than you use throughout the day. Of course, counting calories is a cumbersome and relentless task that most people tend to avoid altogether. This doesn’t have to be the case. There are great new diets out there that make sure you’re not consuming more than you burn by simply following an easy-to-follow system. The most popular of these new diets is called Fat Burning Furnace
